Strawberries, an interesting indicator for the function of your desalination plant

Strawberries are extremely sensitive to boron in irrigation waters.

Seawater naturally contains safe, low ppb, levels of boron. When desalinating, boron can be concentrated to ppm levels. This concentration, while harmless for human ingestion, it highly toxic for a wide range of fruit and vegetables.

Ion exclusion provides a simple solution for low-level analysis of boron, as borate, in seawater and desalinated water.
